    Can anyone help?
    I have a 96 saloon and the small button that releases the rear seat allowing it to be raised vertically is missing. I have tried everything including an hours fishing through that tiny hole with a small hook on the end of a coat hanger!

    A picture of the catch could be invaluable.

    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi John,

    Only just seen your request… have you got anywhere with this yet? I don’t have 96 myself, but I can ask around?

    Cheers,

    Simon

    Hi Simon,
    Thanks for your note.
    Short answer is no.
    I have removed the rear seat upright and lain horizontally to approach that way. All to no avail.

    It would help if I knew what was underneath.

    Thanks again,
    Regards,
    John.

    Thought it might be worth looking at the workshop manual, but not sure there’s a lot of info in there. Have a look at page 542 here;

    http://www.vintagesaabmanuals.org/1968-73-95-and-96-v4-sonett-iii.html

    It might be worth removing the back section of the seat and see if that gets you access to the mechanism?

    Hi Simon,

    Many thanks for sending me that PDF. What a treat!
    So much better than a Haynes.

    Unfortunately there is a gap in the file between 524 and 551.
    If it makes any difference mine is a 1976 ’96L’

    I have removed the back section of the seat and undone everything in site!

    Your time and trouble is appreciated.
    Regards,
    John.

    I’ve tried to find an image of one via google, it must be the most unphotographed part of a Saab – I can’t find any useful pics!

    I hate to say it, but as there’s not that many people on this forum (3 of us so far!), I would point you in the direction of the other Saab forums – have you tried the following;
